Long Island Winterfest Returns to Wine Country

4laurellake4Long Island Wine Country is preparing to celebrate the regional music festival, Long Island Winterfest from February 8 – March 16, 2014. During Winterfest, wineries, lodging, dining and attractions combine to create an amazing destination for winter tourism.

Back for its seventh consecutive year, Long Island Winterfest has been re-named “Live on the Vine,” to now incorporate different genres of music in addition to reveled jazz musicians. We are thrilled to see this event continue to evolve and grow each year. It brings a significant amount of visitors to the North Fork. They come for the music and stay for the great deals, as well as an exciting atmosphere.

Winterfest, planned as a group with the Long Island Wine Council, East End Arts Council and the Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau, is able to provide all-star acts and discounted tickets to shows at participating wineries. By visiting the hub website, www.liwinterfest.com, one can view wineries and other venues, a calendar of musical events, musicians and special offers with packages too.

Another new addition this year, is the various ticket options available. One can select general admission, a day pass, a Weekend Hopper pass, or a Festival Hopper pass, which is good for the entire event. Ticket purchase can be made on the website listed above, or at individual wineries.

We are looking forward to enjoying this event, and providing a memorable experience for our guests of the North Fork Bed & Breakfast Association. We will see you soon!

Winter Magic on the North Fork of Long Island

snow on pine branchIt’s January on the North Fork of Long Island. We celebrated a cozy Christmas, and rang in 2014 with local bubbly. Now, we focus on the year ahead. What to do first!

January begins with snow, and we would like to share with our fans just what the East End of Long Island, particularly the North Fork, has to offer its visitors. Did you think that everything would be closed now? Well, we are open for business and some of our returning guests feel that the wintertime is this region’s best kept secret!

The next few months will be the off-season at our Bed & Breakfasts, which means that prices are at their best value, while packages and specials abound. Once here, it’s an amazing time to experience Long Island Wine Country tasting rooms. Sure, the harvest is full of activity and bustling energy, but winter through early spring can give you the best of personalized service and a warm atmosphere. Wine lovers insist on visiting during quiet times at the wineries. Most often, you will be able to enjoy a private tasting or tour, sit by the fireplace (if available, such as at Raphael in Peconic), and wine stewards can interact more readily, offering a variety of perks at the tasting bar.

Coming in February, Wine Country will begin its annual Long Island Winterfest: Live on the Vine, where renowned musicians will perform at tasting rooms across the two forks. Visit www.liwinterfest.com, for more information on this regional winter festival.fireplace

This time of year is also a fantastic time for family outings to our area. In Riverhead, we recommend the Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center, www.longislandaquarium.com. Sitting outside for a show may not be an option on a snowy or freezing day, but the crowds will be long gone from the Christmas break, and kids will love the up-close and personal view they will have of the sea life, butterfly and bird display.

Hungry for something new? Our local dining hot spots have put together seasonal menus to warm your soul, and also offer prix fixe meals to help your pocket. Be sure to visit the restaurants on the romantic North Fork route, through Greenport. Helpful Hint: Call ahead or visit the restaurant’s website for updated hours, reservation requirements and new menus.

Good luck in your getaway planning. We are here to answer any questions you may have!

Shop Local and Enjoy North Fork Festivities

GiftBoxesWe talk about it. We promote it. Shop local. It’s the holiday season and shoppers abound. They come from far and near to visit the malls and find the best deals, but the lesser known fact is that the East End and our surrounding area is rich in fantastic gifts and holiday festivities.

We, at the North Fork Bed & Breakfast Association, have a few holiday ideas that are sure to get you in the spirit of celebrating, as well as satisfy the most unique needs on your gift list.

#1: Visit tasting rooms and websites of Long Island Wine Country wineries. They offer gorgeous baskets, gift cards and unique experiences. You can build your own wine bottle basket with chocolates and accessories. If you’d rather give a winemaker tour or a tasting event, as about purchasing tickets or a gift card. A gift from Wine Country is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

#2: Browse the shops of Greenport Village. There are boutiques filled with stylish clothing, a leather shop, a toy store, wine and cheese gift shops, and much more. Greenport is also a hub for foodie spots, offering gourmet small plates, local shellfish and even a microbrewery right in the village. This visit would be a perfect day out on the East End, from morning through dinner.

#3: Stroll Love Lane in Mattituck. This quaint, old-fashioned hamlet boasts an assortment of candy, cheese, art, wine and other extraordinary shops. It is small but memorable. This is a spot to plan for lunchtime. Love Lane Kitchen is the perfect stop for lunch, or just a fresh brewed coffee or cappuccino.taste love lane

No matter what you choose to do, the North Fork has so much to offer… more than you would expect during this chilly but magical time of the year!
